PLACES TO VISIT |

|
Rather than have hundreds of different links on this page, we are going to limit it to a few tracks and a few sites that have nothing but links - lots of links! Please e-mail the webmaster if you have a problem with any of the links listed below or if you have any suggestions for sites to link to. The webmaster did check out the links below and hope that they are still up and running. As in the rest of this site, this page will be changed as needed. For the USCF links, please go to the home page listed below.
This page was originally set up for Minnesota users. The excellent, world class wooden track at the National Sports Center was not originally included on this page. Not to fear, their excellent website will give the visitor an excellent overview of the track and its exciting and growing program. The track was opened in 1992 in time for the Olympic tryouts and was a duplicate- designed by the same architecht as the Olympic track in Barcelona. For more information kindly click on the "tracks" link and then on the link for the track.

| NORTHBROOK: |
|
|
Until December, 1996 the webmaster was connected with the Northbrook track at Northbrook, Illinois. This is an nice facility with a chalet next to the track that can be used for meetings, indoor warming up, food, and washroom (newly remodeled) facilities. Northbrook is located about 21 miles north of Chicago. It is a 400 meter track at the safety line and has 18 degree banking. Northbrook has had a number of Olympic racers either from or who raced at the track including: Bill Clay, Chris Coletta, Roger Young, Jim Ochowitz, John VandeVelde, and Mark Gorsky.

| KENOSHA: |
|
| This is the oldest operating velodrome in the United States. The 333 meter track has 23 degree banking and is set up on the north side of Kenosha, Wisconsin. Built in 1927, the track has that small town atmosphere and support with people sitting on the hill that is to the north of the track or bringing their own folding chairs to sit along the top of the track behind the link fence. Kenosha has one of the top junior programs in the country. One word of warning: the track is near a small creek where the mosquitos can be a bit aggressive! But then again, the riders are just as aggressive! Notice that we now have the URL for the web site. Erin Veenstra, USA Track team member started at Kenosha, thanks to their excellent stock bike program. |

INDIANAPOLIS |
|
|
| Major Taylor is a well equipted facility including paved aprons that are wide enough to permit warmups, shower facilities and much more. Located near Marion College - sometimes called "bike U" the 333 meter concrete track attracts major caliber events each year as well as hosting bmx races on a dirt field next to the main track. A comprehensive training program that includes inner city youth as well as a citizen's racing program rounds out some of the track's features. |

ALPENROSE |

Located near Portland, Oregon this 333 meter concrete track has 42 and 43 degree banking. It is also a privately owned track. The website strongly urges racers to "take two practice sessions before a mass start" because of the transistions between the banking and the straightaways. |

At the present time two separate sites are listed for links. Both have more links than anyone could ever use. The webmaster again can not promise that all links listed in the following two selections are active. Nevertheless, little is missed and often duplicated. Enjoy! |

My counterpart at Northbrook states that this site has more links than a tandem chain. As of 16 March 2000 it was alive and well and loaded with links! I have not checked as of 16 March 2000 which means that you're on your own on this!! |

Bike stores:
We do not endorse any specific bicycle store in the Twin Cities area. There are around 85 stores all totaled, including chains. Some of the stores are small "ma and pa" stores that have been in a particular neighborhood for ages. Others are chains that started as ma and pa stores and simply grew. The "uptown" area in Minneapolis has any number of excellent bicycle stores that cater from the very serious road racer to the casual bike rider. We have noticed that most stores we have visited have acknowledgeable staff that are more than eager to help you out.
For the serious racer and rider there is Flanders Brothers on Lyndale. They have a following that cater more to high end cycling gear. Penn Cycles has several stores in the Metro area and offers a wide range of cycling needs. Their original store is on Penn Ave around 66th South. They also have a full feature store on Cedar Run Road in Minnetonka, another store in Bloomington and one in Uptown.
If you wish to shop in St. Paul there is Grand Performance at Grand and Prior. A small store loaded with great stuff and staff that has a wide range of customers. Up north near the National Sports Center is Blaine Velo, a relatively new store on highway 65 just north of 85th. A friendly staff sells a wide range of cycling gear.
There are, of course, about 81 other stores that are not listed. Some of the ones that we are aware of include: Boehms in St. Paul on Selby, Kenwood in Minneapolis, Erik's (another chain that does mostly civilian types and mountain bikes),and other stores. If you have a particular bike store that you want listed please let us know. While we do not plan to have a page just for bike stores we do want those of you who check us out who might not be familiar with the area to have an idea of the vast number of stores that are out there.
If you are in the Arrowhead Country the leading store is in Duluth: Twin Ports Cyclery. They cater to all aspects of cycling and are the only store that has an extensive offering in road bikes as well as mountain bikes. Other cities have their fair share of stores that can be found in the Yellow Pages or by "word of mouth".
